REMARKABLE CURE.

BEDRIDDEN FOR YEARS. HAILED AS A MIRACLE. Death has been defeated and two and a-half years of hopeless pain turned to the seventh heaven of delight in a home on Cashmere Hills (says the Christchurch Sun). The husband, bedridden for over two years, should have been dead, according to the dicta of medical science ; but the disease he was suffering from has been conquered, and its many complications have vanished, all during the last five months. The members of the home, at least, hail the change as a miracle. "Faith and prayer they claim to be the potent factors. “I am a happy, happy man.” exclaimed the man with a light in his ' eyes and a thrill in his voice, when he explained to a Sun reporter the great difference that had taken place. “I have hundreds of pounds’ worth of receipts for doctors, private hospitals, and medicine. The . doctor said he admits that no treatment of his, by itself, was responsible for the amazing cure, but he believes he has helped me psychologically.” Wonders have been worked since the man read in bed the facts that the late Chief Justice, Sir Charles Skerrett, had blod clots in his leg, that amputation had taken place, and that ultimately death had supervened. Poor Consolation. Poor consolation it proved for this bedridden reader to realise that he had clots of blood in both legs, extending from the feet to the groins. Repeated consultations by specialists in the North Island always held no hope, except the chance of mere relief by complete excision of the colon. That was the last blow. The man decided, very much against the doctor’s wishes, to go to the South Island, merely in order, as he thought, that when he died, he could know that his wife was near to friends and relatives. He was at last advised that injections of morphia to deaden the severe pains that he was experiencing was all that could be done for him. Included in the man’s ailments were . general toxaemia, membraneous colonitis, and valvular heart trouble. i Bibles Long Scorned. Bibles and prayers were scorned five months ago, while all faith had been destroyed in doctors and human nature. The man and his overjoyed wife now say that they have never been happier. “I will spend the rest of my life in helping people needing something in addition to medical treatment," said the man. “I doubted there was a God or any Being. Now I am convinced that faith and hope and prayer are actually answered. I do not know what or who God is, and I almost do not care. I am happy in the conviction that there is a Supreme Being, a Master Mind or God, ever with us. “Nothing spectacular happened to me. There was only a steady progress back to health. The blood clots vanished. A miracle happened. I pictured myself as well and whole.‘“Mrs N. A. Menzies visited me when all, hope was denied me and I was expecting death. Had it not been for her influence that gave me faith, all would have been useless. “The doctor who is now attending me is extremely pleased. Both the doctor and Mrs Menzies gave me faith and God answered our prayers.” So neat to death had he been on several occasions, he said, that he had written bn the wall-paper halting messages which he believed would be his last, addressed to his wife, who had been absent for a few minutes from his bedside. Jt was a remarkable case, said the doctor concerned when interviewed. The man had been absolutely without hope and had lost all faith in human nature. The position was, the doctor believed, that without faith no medical science could have assisted the man to make the recovery he had made. On the other hand, the doctor said he would not admit that faith alone could have done so much for the patient. Either faith or medical treatment alone could not have been responsible. Spiritual Healing Work. “Spiritual healing work is and has been proceeding quietly and steadily in Christchurch ever since the advent of Mr Hickson’s mission,” said Mrs N. A. Menzies, in an interview. Mrs Menzies is the secretary to the Spiritual Healing Fellowship in Christchurch. ‘’There has been little emotionalism, and no cures have been obtained in the flickering of an eyelash,” continued Mrs Menzies, “but there have been many cures. All of them have occurred steadily and surely. “Encouragement and hope and faith is the first move. Then comes earnest and concentrated prayer. The case _ mentioned is indeed a glorious example of what heights may be reached through faith and prayer. “Of course, we do not believe that doctors should be dispensed with,” added Mrs Menzies. “On the contrary, we work in with them, and the/ one helps the other to achieve wonderful results.’
