More accommodation was being provided. The crowded state of most of the rooms had to some extent militated against the general efficiency of the school. The chairman and secretary reported in detail on matters which had been discussed during the afternoon with the board’s architect. The architect had agreed to recommend the installation of a septic tank, the cost to be borne by the Education Board and department, but it might be necessary for the committee to find 25 per cent, of the cost. Various alterations and renovations about the school and grounds had been discussed. It was decided that application be made for the annual grant for tarring and sanding the playground. The matter of having the work done was left to the chairman. The matter of appliances for the proposed children’s playground was explained by Mr Chappell, who showed how swings and see-saws could be provided. The matter was entertained, and the committee undertook to obtain the materials and erect the appliances during the Christmas holidays. HIKUTAIA. Personal. Mr H. McGarvey, postmaster at Hikutaia, who is now on leave, is spending his holiday in Auckland. Mr E. Tremaine, of Te Aroha, is acting as relieving postmaster. ’ Tennis.
