PERSONAL.
Waihi will shortly lose a popular medical man and a highly esteemed citizen in Dr. T. G. Short, who has sold his practice to Dr. Barraclough, of Karanrea, on the West Coast of the South Island, and will be leaving the town about two months hence. During upwards of twelve years spent in Waihi Dr. Short has taken a keen interest in public affairs and been prominently associated with all movements for .the advancement of the district.
An interesting gathering of teachers and pupils of the Waihi South school took place in the grounds last week, the occasion being to bid farewell to Miss Marjorie Paterson on the eve of her departure for Paeroa, to which place she has been transferred to fill the position of infant mistress at the public school. The guest was presented with a solid leather suit-case as a token of the esteem in which she was held by her fellow teachers and the pupils, the gift being handed to Miss Paterson by one of the senior pupils, on behalf of both teachers and scholars. Mr J. T. Teesdale (headmaster) took the opportunity of expressing his high appreciation of Miss Paterson’s work at the school and referring to the keen interest she had always taken in the welfare of her. pupils and the school generally. He wished her every success in her new position.
