PAEROA DEFEATS THAMES. LAST SATURDAY’S MATCH. On Saturday afternoon at the local club’s courts, the Paeroa team met and defeated the representatives of the Thames club. Paeroa won by Bsets, or 126 games to 116. Splendid tennis was witnessed the improved standard of the Paeroa players being manifesto and was made all the more outstanding by the fact that this was the first occasion for some considerable time that Paeroa has beaten Thames. Following are the results, Paeroa players being mentioned first in each case : — Men’s Singles.—McMillan lost to Garland, 3—6, 4—6 ; Thorp lost to Poulgrain, 4—6, 3—6 ; Hunter lost to Danby, 6—3, I—6, 7—9 ; F. Thorp beat A. Danby, 6—l, 6—l. Ladies’ Singles.—Miss Shand beat Mrs Glover, 9—7; Miss M. Taylor beat Mrs Danby, 7—2. Men’s Doubles.— McMillan and Thorp lost to Garland and Poulgrain, 4_6, I—6 ; Steedman and Hunter beat S. Danby, and A. Danby, 6—3, 4—6, 10—8 ; F. Thorp and Lee beat Currie and Twentyman, 6—4, 4—6, 6—l. Ladies’ Doubles.—Misses Shand and M. Taylor beat Mesdames Glover and Danby, 9—3 ; Misses H. Taylor and Payne beat Mrs Garland and Miss Boyle, 9—7. Combined Doubles.—Miss H. Taylor and Lee lost to Mrs Currie and Garland, B—9 ; Miss Payne and Steedman beat Miss Boyle and Twentyman, 9—4. MATCHES ON THE PLAINS. COMPETITIONS CONTINUED. The second series of matches of the Hauraki Plains inter-club competition was played on Saturday in windy weathr. On account of t|ie muddy state of those sections of the Patetonga-Kai-here road where formation work is in progress the Patetonga-Waitakaruru matches were postponed until the end of the season. Accidents and bereavements prevented the Ngatea club. from sending a “B” team to Kerepeehi. At Ngatea the home team beat the Kerepeehi “A” team by 8 sets (93 games) to 5 sets (71 games). Turua beat Hopai by 13 sets (105 games) to 0 sets (39 games). Turua “B” beat Kaihere by 12 sets (76 games) to 1 set ((28 games).
