AUCKLAND V. THAMES VALLEY. WIN FOR CITY. Perfect weather graced the Representative tennis tournament between Auckland and Thames Valley at Paeroa on Saturday afternoon. Auckland proved much too strong a combination for Thames Valley, but the games proved a much higher standard of play local players than was expected. The visit of the city representatives did much to raise enthusiasm and will result in a much improved standard of play. Auckland won 16 sets and Thames Valley three. The following are the results, Auckland in each case being mentioned first :— Ladies’ Doubles.—Misses Knight and Macfarlane lost to Miss Shand and Mrs Glover, 4—6, 6—3 7—5 ; Misses Potter and Frankham beat Mesdames Danby and Wallace, 6—o, 6—5. Combined Doubles. —Miss Potter and Lamb beat Miss Sharp and Garland, 9 —2 ; Miss Frankham and Watkins beat Mrs Wallace and Ruston, 9—4. Ladies’ Singles (17 games).—Miss Knight lost to Miss Shand, 7—9 ; Miss Miller beat ’ Mrs Glover, 9—5 ; Miss Miller lost to Miss Gibb, 5—9 ; MacFarlane beat Miss Sharp, 9—6; Potter beat Mrs Danby, 9 —2 ; Miss Frankham beat Mrs Wallace, 9—4. Men’s Singles.—Bartleet beat Gray, 4—6, 6 —o, 6—2 ; Griffiths beat Wright, 6—l, 6 —2 ; Lamb beat Bush, 6—3, 6—3 ; Hubble beat Garland, 6_5, 6—4 ; Watkins v. Danby, 6—2, 6—3 ; Johns beat Ruston, 6—2, 6—4. Men’s Doubles.—Bartleet and Griffith beat Gray and Wright, 6—3, 3_6, B—6 ; Lamb and Hubble beat Bush and Garland, 6—2; 6—3 ; Watkins and Johns beat Danby and Ruston, 6—3, &—l. MATCHES ON THE PLAINS. .. SATURDAY’S RESULTS. Following are the results of competition games played on the Plains on Saturday :— “A”Grade. —Turua beat Ngatea by 9 sets (95 games) to 4 (69' games) ; Waitakaruru beat Kerepeehi by 9 sets (92 games) to 4 (76 games) ; Patetonga beat Hopai ‘by 13 sets (105 games) to 0 (31 games). “B” Grade. —Turua beat Ngatea by 9 sets (97 games) to 4 (62 games) ; Kerepeehi beat Waitakaruru by 9 sets (74 games) to 2 (48 games) ; Patetonga beat Kaihere by 10 sets (78 games) to 2 (40 games).
