SWIMMING CLUB.

OPENING OF THE SEASON. PREPARATIONS FOR TO-NIGHT. At a meeting of the committee of the . Paeroa Amateur Swimming Club last night final arrangements were made for the opening of the club’s season, which is to take place tonight. The secretary reported having purchased a water polo ball, and also corks and tapes for marking off the baths for races. A letter from the Borough Council with reference to the request for a contribution towards adequately lighting the baths and providing a high springboard was discussed, and it was decided to offer the sum of £l2 10s, the payment to be made over two seasons. The programme for the carnival on December 9 was drawn up. The two big events in which the Australian swimmers will participate are 100yds and 220yds invitation races, and they will also do some exhibition stunts. It is also expected that some of Auckland’s best swimmers will take part in the carnival.
