VETERINARY MATTERS
THE PLAINS CLUB. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The committee of the Hauraki Plains Farmers’ Veterinary Club held its monthly meeting; at Ngatea on Monday evening, Mr C. W. Schultz presiding over Messrs W. Clark, G. Phillips,’W. Jones, C. Vagg, H. Andrews, and the secretary, Mr C. A. Gibson. Surgeon’s Report. The surgeon, Mr T. A. Aris, reported having made 135 visits to 65 members, the most prevalent cases being calving, foaling, milk fever, hard quarters, etc. Finance. In connection with visits by the surgeon to farmers who had promised to become members but had failed to do so, it was decided to make a charge of £2 2s for each visit unless they became members. Accounts totalling £7 18s were passed for payment, leaving roughly £l3 in the bank. Several members whose dues were in arrear would be given notice to pay within seven days or be sued. Complaints. A complaint was voiced that members had experienced difficulty in getting the surgeon on the telephone while his wife was away, and the secretary was instructed to write to the surgeon urging him to make arrangements for receiving messages. It was reported that a member had had the surgeon attend cows at Maramarua which were being driven from Pokeno. This was out of the surgeon’s district, and it was right that he should be compensated. It was decided to charge the member £1 Is for travelling expenses.
