PAEROA “A” V. HIKUTAIA. WIN FOR HIKUTAIA TEAM. The Paeroa “A” team suffered defeat at the hands of the Hikutaia players at Hikutaia last Saturday by 8 sets to 5 (84 games to 71). Although this was the first match of the season the games were keenly contested, and the standard of play was fair. Paeroa won all the singles but one, Hikutaia winning all the doubles and combined doubles. At the conclusion of the game Mi* G. McMillan, on behalf of the Paeroa club, congratulated the Hikutaia team on its victory. He also offered thanks for the hospitality extended to them. Mr E. Turner, in replying, expressed pleasure at having Paeroa with them that day, and said he was pleased that they had enjoyed their visit. Details are as follows, the Paeroa players being mentioned first:— Men’s Singles.—G. McMillan beat E. Turner, 9—4 ; H. Thorp beat R. Rare, 9—4 ;M. Hunter beat H. McGarvey, 9—B ; F. Thorp lost to W. Alley, 4—9. Ladies’ Singles.—Miss V. Shand beat Miss G. Gibb, 7—4 ; Miss H. Taylor beat Miss M. Elliott, 7 —o. Men’s Doubles.—McMillan and H. Thorp lost to Turner and Rare, B—98 —9 ; Hunter and F. Thorp lost to McGarvey and Alley, 4—9 ; O’Neill and Lee lost to Elliott and Tohu, 2—9. Ladies’ Doubles.—Misses Shand and Taylor lost to Misses Gibb and Elliott, 4—7 ; Misses Payne and M. Taylor lost to Misses Alley and Brown, o—7. Combined Doubles.—O’Neill and Miss Payne lost to Tohu and Miss Alley, 2—7 ; Lee and Miss Taylor lost to Elliott and Miss Brown, 6—7. PAEROA B. V. WAIHI. VICTORY FOR LOCAL TEAM. At the Paeroa Tennis Club’s courts on Saturday the local “B” team met and defeated the Waihi representatives. The following were the results, Paeroa players being mentioned first in each instance :— Men’s Singles.—Page lost to Rowe, 4—9 ; Taylor beat H. Capamagian, 9—7 ; Ward lost to Aitken, 6—9 ; Wells beat B. Capamagian, 9—o. Ladies’ Singles.—Miss O’Neil beat Mrs Roberts, 7—2 ; Miss Milroy beat Mrs Coutts, 7—4. Men’s Doubles.—Page and Taylor lost to Rowe and H. Capamagian, 6—9 ; Dainton and Ward beat Aitken and B. Capamagian, 9—4 ; Priestley, and Wells beat Slaney and Pankhurst, 9—6. Ladies’ Doubles. —Misses O’Neil and Milroy beat Mesdames Roberts and Coutts, 7—5 ; Misses Towers and Barwell beat Misses Ellerington and Paterson, 7—5. Combined Doubles.— Miss Towers and Priestley beat Miss Ellerington and Slaney, 7—2 ; Miss Barwell and Dainton beat Miss Paterson and. Pankhurst, 7—5. Paeroa won by 10 sets to 3.
