OUTSIDE PATIENTS.

THAMES AND WAIHI HOSPITALS. QUESTION OF FEES AGAIN. Whether the Thames Hospital Board would reciprocate in the matter of reducing charges for urgent outside cases from 12s to 9s a day for* adults and 4s 6d a day for children was a question that caused some discussion at the monthly meeting of the Waihi board on Thursday evening last, when a letter from the Thames board expressing appreciation of the action of the Waihi board in making the reduction was read. Mr J. Kemp brought the matter up by asking : Did they say they would reduce their charges, too ? The Secretary (Mr J. W. Tetley) : No. Mr Kemp : Then I shall give notice to move at the next meeting of this board that the motion to reduce the fees be rescinded. “Are they going to charge us 12s a day ?” asked Mr Raddings. The Secretary : They did not raise the charge in the first place until we did. Mr Kemp : Then will they reduce it again ? Mr Tetley : They have not said so in the letter, but I have no doubt that they will. “Let us wait until they get a case from our district and see,” suggested Mr S. 11. Brown. • “Now is the time,” observed Mr J. W. Meiklejohn. “Too right it is,” agreed Mr Kemp. Mr Raddings moved that the secre- v tary write to the Thames board suggesting that its fees be the same as the Waihi board’s were now. This was seconded by Mr Kemp. Mr A. E. Robinson : I think we should add that we will take the opinion of our medical suuperintendent, and not of the Thames Hospital Board, as to what are urgent cases. Mr Raddings agreed to add this to his motion. “This is the third time we have moved that,” said Mi* B. Pascoe. “It is a waste of time to do it again. The Thames board knows that we take the opinion of our superintendent.” The motion was then put to the meeting and carried.
