POWER BOARD.
CRITICISM BY MEMBER. COMMITTEE’S REPORT. . The Thames Valley Electric Power Board’s committee appointed at the board’s October meeting to go into the questions relative to criticism of the board’s branches and their method of conducting business, as brought up by Mr J. M. Allen (Morrinsville), tabled its report on the subject at the meeting on Tuesday. At the saine time a letter was read from the Morrinsville Farmers’ Union stating that by resolution at a meeting of that union it was decided to convey to the board its sincere endorsement of the remarks made at the board’s last meeting by Mr J. M. Allen concerning the methods of the board in relation to new business./The board would appreciate that the union’s members were vitally interested in the success of the board’s operations, and this should serve to help the board in effecting any improvements it considered necessary. After the reading of the committee’s report the chairman, Mr F. M. Strange, said that as Mr Allen .had only received a copy of the report a little while previously it would be rather difficult for him to answer it immediately. The committee had covered all Mr Allen’s points, and the board was indebted to that member for bringing them up. Mr Allen thanked the Finance Committee for its careful consideration of the subject, and made it plain that he had not brought the matter up in any hypercritical spirit. He had. brought it up in the hope that it would be of value to the board. If it made for better service from the officials in the different branches, then the matter had not been wasted. He would require more time to digest the report, anxious as he was, in common with the rest of the board, to see the subject “washed up,” and therefore he would not say any more, at the moment. Mr Strange agreed that the matter was well worthy of consideration, and should be well gone into, considered coolly, and not on the spur of the moment. Mr H. M. Corbett requested a copy of the report for the next meeting. Mr F. E. Flatt stated that Mr Allen had made a series of charges to the board. They were constructive and not destructive criticisms. /Apparently Mr Allen had the support of a number of p eople, and a number of people at Morrinsville were upholding him. Unfortunately Mr Allen had not had the opportunity of going into the report. He should be given an opportunity of doing so. It was his business to do so and then say whethei his charges were right or wrong. Mr Allen reiterated his request that he should have time to go into the report, and asked that every member be supplied with a copy. Mr J. Pohlen then moved that consideration of the report be reserved until the next meeting to allow Mr Allen to substantiate his charges. Mr Corbett : We all want to see the report. Mr Strange : Not charges, statements.' Mr Flatt : Well, verify his statements. It was finally decided to leave the question to the next meeting, as moved by Mr Pohlen, members to be supplied with copies of the report in the meantime.
