e KAIHERE. L\ TENNIS CLUB. 5 The very wet weather last Thursday night affected the attendance at the annual meeting of the Kaihere Tennis Club, and it was therefore not possible to gauge the probablfe strength of the club for the coming season, but in view of the shortage of men players it was -thought that it would not be possible to enter for the association’s competitions. The meeting was held in the war memorial pavilion on the V domain, and was the first occasion on which the building has been used. It is not yet quite finished. The following officers were elected : President, Mrs Cope; vice-president, Mrs D. Downs; secretary, Miss French ; committee, Mesdames Davis, Downs, Benny, Misses A. Bird, B. Benny, and Messrs Cope and A. G. < Davis. Rr As only one court is fit for play, it ' was decided not to issue a general invitation to members of other clubs to the opening day on Saturday next. NGATEA. HALL SOCIETY. The Ngatea Public Hall Society’s executive committee held its monthly meeting last evening, Mr G. Phillips presiding over Messrs C. S. Foster, S. Phillips, R. C. Abel, W. Wylde, and S. p Tarver (secretary). * A quotation of 5s for the hire of the hall and piano and 7s 6d if the electric urn and crockery were used t was given the promoters of the proposed local branch of the Manchester p Unity Order of Oddfellows. If the lodge was formed meetings would be held fortnightly. The Thames Valley Power Board advised that from October 1 it would maintain the Ngatea township street lights for £3 15s each per annum. It was reported that the alterations to the electrical installation had been completed as required by the Fire Underwriters’ Association. The financial statement for the month of October showed receipts totalling £l3 15s Bd, and expenditure, including' the month’s portion of the annual charges, £lO ss. The month’s charge for the street lighting was £1 ;■ Os 3d. The credit balance at the bank and cash in hand totalled £8 17s sd, ac- ' j counts due to the society amounted to £23 7s Bd, and accounts owing by the society totalled £l5 Os 4d.
