WOMEN’S TEMPERANCE
SOUTH AUCKLAND CONVENTION GATHERING AT PAEROA. The South Auckland Women’s Christian Temperance Union’s annual convention was held in the Centenary Hall, Paeroa, on Wednesday last, the first gathering of its kind to be held in Paeroa. The district president, Mrs Jones, J.P., of Hamilton, occupied the chair. ‘ Morning and afternoon sessions were held, preceded on each occasion by devotional exercises. A brief call was made by the Rev. Bateup and the Rev. J. Lowden to extend the welcome of their churches to the delegates.
The reports of branches, headquarters affairs, treasurer’s report, plans of work, election of officers, filled a busy day, The outstanding feature of the gathering was the address delivered by Mrs Peryman, a well-known worker in the temperance cause, who had travelled from Wellington for the occasion. Luncheon was provided by the members of the Paeroa branch, and at the afternoon session a solo was rendered by Mrs Mitchell and a recitation by Mrs Epps. The next convention is to be held in Cambridge, in 1930.
