DISTRICT NEWS.

TURUA. CATHOLIC BAZAAR. With the purpose of raising funds to augment the sum in hand for the building of a Roman Catholic Church in Turua a bazaar was held in the Turua Hall yesterday afternoon and evening. Owing to the wet weather and the very cold southerly wind the attendance was not so large as was expected. Stalls, prettily decorated and laden with goods for sale, were ranged along both sides of the building, and at the ends the competitions were held. The stallholders were as follows : Sewing, Mrs F. Loader ; fancy, Mrs R. Flynn ; sweets, Misses McCormick and Spencer; cakes, Miss Molloy; produce and odds and ends, Mrs Allan ; Hoop-la, Mr J. O'Carroll ; competitions, Mrs F. L. Hamilton ; refreshments, Mesdames Honiss, White, Henwood, Misses Quinn and Mules.

Very numerous entries were received for the cooking competitions, for which valuable prizes had been donated. The awards, made by Mr J. Mules, were as follows : Sponge with butter, Mrs A. Peet; sponge without butter, Mrs A. Peet; bread, Sister Sheridan ; shortbread, Mrs S. S. Murray ; scones, Mrs J. Flynn ; creampuffs, Mrs J. E. Leonard.

In the evening the attendance was large, and brisk business was done by the stallholders and competition organisers. The results of the raffles are advertised in this issue. NGATEA. CHURCH SOCIAL. Wet weather probably interfered with the attendance at the monthly social held on Wednesday evening by the Ngatea Anglican Ladies’ Guild, but a pleasant time was spent by those who had braved the elements. The music was by the Ngatea Orchestra, and Mr J. Bower was M.C. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Chatfield and Mr G. Birkenhead, and the euchre tournament by Miss Dent and Mi- W. Williams, with Mrs W. Wylde and Mr L. Cotter securing the consolation prizes.
