SIX MONTHS’ FIGURES. PASSENGER TRAFFIC DECREASE Figures showing the revenue and expenditure on the railways for the period April 1 to September 14 were published in last week’s Gazette. The total revenue was shown at £3,600,674, as against £3,532,718 for the corresponding period last year. The expenditure was £3,311,292 as against £3,151,725. The percentage of expenditure to revenue over all was 91.96,' or 2.74 higher than for the corresponding period last year.

First and second-class passenger traffic showed a decrease of 131,959, single and return tickets, and season tickets sold fell by 6857, but the number of passengers carried by road motor services was 183,223 higher than a year ago. In the goods section the numbers of calves, sheep, and pigs carried were higher, but there was a decrease in the cattle, while the tonnage of timber and other goods had increased by 179,343 tons.
