RIFLE SHOOTING.
PAEROA DEFENCE CLUB.
SATURDAY’S PRACTICE SHOOT
Before a good attendance of members the Paeroa Defence Rifle Club held a practice shoot on the local rifle range on Saturday. .Shooting conditions were fair, but cross-winds had some of the riflemen thinking. Captain Simmonds headed the list, while some of the new members shot well shooting, new telephone poles being and showed great promise. A working bee was held during the put in and the new flag-poles being painted. A fair amount of work has been done on the range, which will be in fine order this season.
The scoring was as follows : — Captain H. Simmonds, 30 at 300yds, 33 at 500yds, total 63 ; President F. C. Hubbard, 30, 31—61 ; Dep.-President R. I. Wells, 31, 29—60 ; Rfm. G. W. Taylor, 27, 32—59 ; Rfm. P. R. Hubbard, 28, 30—58 ; Rfm. E. Turton, 25, 32—57 ; Rfm. W. A. Reid, 23, 30—53 ; Cadet A. Simmonds, 25, 28—53 ; Rfm. R. I. Roberts, 23, 29—52 ; Rfm. R. W. Roberts, 22, 29—51 ; Rfm. L. Morris, 24, 27—51 ; Rfm. D. Currie, 24, 26— 50 ; Rfm. H. A. Morrison, 19, 29—48 ; A. A. Jenkinson, 26, 21—47. Next Saturday a practice shoot will be held at 500yds and 600yds ranges, these distances being used by the Waihi Rifle Club at its official opening on Labour Day, at which many of the Paeroa Club members will be present. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING. On Wednesday evening, at the local Drill Hall, the Paeroa Defence Miniature Rifle Club will conclude the twonight competition. This will also be the final shoot of the season for the Miniature Club, and a good attendance of members is expected.
