BOWLING.

PLAY ON PAEROA GREEN.

PRESENTATION TO MR. T. HALE.

At the local bowling green on Saturday there were no set competitions, as many members were away at the opening of the Waihi and Thamesclubs, but a most enjoyable series of friendly games were played.

The afternoon was marked by a presentation to Mr T. H. Hale on the occasion of his coming departure from Paeroa. Mr L. Gibb, vice-president, in making the presentation, remarked on how valuable and- how enthusiastic a member of the club Mr Hale had been. While voicing on behalf of the whole club the great and sincere regret at Mr Hale’s departure, Mr Gibb said he would have the best wishes of all the members in his new sphere of business.

Mr E. Edwards also made reference to the splendid services Mr Hale had rendered the Paeroa club, especially the aid rendered personally when he (the speaker) was president and Mr Hale vice-president. He hoped that in his new business Mr Hale would find time to devote some leisure hours to the green in the vicinity of his new habitat. Mr Edwards also paid tribute to Mrs Hale, who had assisted the club in very many ways. In conclusion the speaker wished Mr and Mrs Hale health, prosperity, and success.

Mr Hale, in reply, expressed his regret at severing his connection with a club whose members he had been so happy to associate with. He would ever remembei’ the times spent together. ’ As a memento of his membership Mr Hale presented a cup to the club to be played for each year and to be awarded to the member who secured the greatest number of wins in the season.

At the finish of Mr Hale’s speech three cheers were called, and most heartily given, for the departing members.

Goldfields Stars Arrangements.

At a meeting of Goldfields delegates held in the Paeroa Bowling Club pavilion on Saturday night arrangements were completed for the playing of the Clothier Shield and Goldfields Stars at Paeroa on Saturday next and Labour Day. It is expected that about 64 visiting bowlers will be participating, as well as the local members.
