NGATEA HIGH SCHOOL.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Ngatea District High School Committee was held on Monday evening, Mr W. McDuff presiding over Messrs R. Rawlings, C. S. Foster, C. Vagg, W. Wylde, R. Cornthwaite, and W. Chappell, headmaster and secretary. New Classroom. Mr Chappell reported that he had been advised by the Education Board’s architect that the tenders for the erection of the new classrooms would be advertised on Wednesday. Additional Land. Advice was received from the Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Lands, that arrangements had been made between his department and the Education Department for the transferehce of the land comprising the right of way to the sports ground to the Education Department. The secretary stated that the land had been surveyed during the month. Accounts. Accounts totalling £l4 14s 8d were passed for payment. A letter was received from the Education Board asking when the balance of the ground improvement fund and its subsidy, amounting to over £l7, would be spent. It was decided to reply that the money would be spent as soon as the season permitted. Attendance. The headmaster mentioned that the attendance had been seriously affected during the last few weeks on account of a form of pneumoniic influenza which attacked children very quickly. Teachers as a rule endeavoured to keep the attendance up, but the nature of the present complaint was such that it was essential to put children to bed at the first sign. If this was done the attack was usually of short duration.
