EAST CLUB DANCE.

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. PRESENTATION OF MEDALS. The East Football Club held its annual dance and euchre tournament on Monday night. The event proved successful in every way, and was largely attended. Besides loeal dance and euchre enthusiasts two busloads from Waihi and one from Thames were present. The hall was beautifully decorated, the main theme being the prevalence of the club colours, yellow and black. In the centre was a wonderful triangle of green bamboo draped and streamed with the black and yellow of the club. Dancing and euchre were thoroughly enjoyed by all participating. After a most interesting and keen euchre tournament the following ran out winners : Ladies’ section, Mrs Bain 1, Mrs May 2 ; men’s section, Mrs White 1, Mr E. Neil 2.

During the course of the evening Mr W. Neil thanked the audience for their attendance and extended a hearty welcome to ail, mentioning specially the visitors who had come a long distance from Waihi and Thames. Mr Neil also mentioned the Suburbs Club, of Hikutaia, and the support it had always given East, and touched on the friendly'relations extant between the two clubs. He hoped that East would retain the cups they had won during the past season. To Mr H. Moore, the secretary, the speaker said great praise was due for the way he had conducted his duties throughout the season. To the ladies thanks were due for their aid and for the supper arrangements. As would be seen by trophies to be presented the club’s successes during the past season had been most gratifying, and showed the club’s advance in local football as compared with recent years. The committee of the club had worked in harmony to do what they could for the national game and to be helpful to the present body. It had been a splendid season financially and in the field, three out of four trophies competed for in all grades having been won.

, Mr Neil then presented trophies to the following : Most improved senior forward, J. Williams, cup ; most improved senior back, H. Moore, medal ; most improved junior forward, W. Holwell, medal ; most improved junior back, L. Masters. Senior’ knock-out competition, the Drysdale Cup, A. McQuarters, captain; junior knockout competition, the Williams Cup, W. Holwell, captain ; junior club’s competition, W. Ashcroft, captain.
