BOROUGH FINANCES.
COMMITTEE’S REPORT.
PAYMENT OF RATES URGED
The following report by the Finance Committee was tabled and approved at the monthly meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council last evening :—
The revenue in the District Fund Account amounted to £576 8s 8d and the expenditure to £1238 16s. Attached accounts were passed for payment, after which the credit balance, including advances made to various loan accounts, was £947 6s.
The expenditure during the month in the various loan acounts was as follows : Sewerage Loan Account, £l6 9s 6d ; Street Improvements Loan Account, 7s ; Water Improvements Loan Account, £2 18s 7d ; House Sewerage Connections Loan Account, £1 18s 3d. After payment of the accounts presented in the statements of the above loan accounts the respective positions of same would be : Sewerage, debit, £129 4s sd; Street Improvements, credit, £2l 0s 8d ; Water Improvements, credit, £3O 12s 7d ; House Sewerage Connections, debit, £196 17s lid. Rate and water charges were coming in slowly, and the committee recommended that water consumers be notified that unless water charges were paid before November 18 the supply would be cut off, and that the town clerk be authorised to carry out the terms of these recommendations by sending circulars to consumers. As the council would shortly be working on an overdraft, the committee urged that ratepayers assist the council by paying their rates at the earliest possible date, and that a notice drawing attention to this be included in the circulars concerning water charges.
