BOWLING.

THE PAEROA CLUB.

SEASON OPENED ON SATURDAY.

A glorious day graced the opening of the season of the Paeroa Bowling Club on Saturday, with many bowlers from Waihi, Waikino, Thames, Te Aroha, and Cambridge, besides the local members, attending.

The president, Mr J. W. Silcock, in the course of an opening speech extended a hearty welcome to the visitors. In mentioning that the Clothier Shield and Goldfields. Stars competitions were to be held at Paeroa this year, on Labour Day and the Saturday preceding, Mr Silcock said he hoped that all clubs in the goldfields area would be represented in this most interesting tournament. A considerable amount of work had been done on the green during the past year, and it was now up to the fine standard enjoyed some years ago. Mr Silcock also made reference to the club losing a very active member in Mr T. Hale, and on behalf of the members wished him health, happiness, and prosperity in his new departure.

A iftember of each of the visiting clubs suitably responded to Mi’ Silcock’s welcome, Mr J. McDermott, the captain of the Waihi club, remarking that Paeroa now possessed one of the best greens in the goldfields. The green was formally declared open when Mrs Silcock, wife of the president, rolled the first jack and bowl, after which a game between the president’s and vice-president’s teams was played, resulting as follows :— McClinchy, Gubb, Pratt, A. Andrews (skip) 17, v. M. Morrison, Mullins, Morland, P. Williams (skip) 33 ; Mclntyre, Boyle, H. Morrison, W. Smith (skip) 19, v. Bassett, Barclay, Surrey, W. Taylor (skip) 25; B.
