Early risers in Paeroa on Saturday morning were greeted with the unusual sight of sqow on Te Aroha Mountain, a mantle of white enveloping the peak and some distance down.

The Wanderers, a Coromandel football team, visited Paeroa on Saturday and tried conclusions. with the local Pirates team. Wanderers were unable to secured a full team to travel, so local players were called upon to fill the gaps. After an enjoyable game Wanderers won by 9 points to 8.

Matamata is to have two picture theatres in the near future, building permits having been approved by the Town Board. One was granted to Mr I. Black on behalf of a Matamata syndicate for a large, modern building replete with every convenience, to seat 828 persons, the estimated cost being over £lO,OOO. The second application was for a building to accommodate 700 people, with two shops on the Tower Road frontage. The application was made by the Union Theatre Co., Te Aroha, and the estimated cost was £7OOO.

The poll of ratepayers of the Thames Valley water supply special rating area, taken on September 5 on the proposal to borrow £11,500 for the purpose of installing a water supply in that area, resulted in 106 votes for and 26 against. The proposal has therefore been gazetted as carried.

Few pedestrians who have suffered at the hands of motorists in wet weather and have been badly splashed know that in the event of the splashing having been the result of carelessness the driver has committeed an offence which renders him liable to prosecution. A Waihi resident, suffering from righteous indignation arising out of a severe splashing, looked up the Motor Vehicles Regulations of 1928 and drew the attention of a representative of the “Telegraph” to the fact that “Every driver of any motor vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid so far as possible the splashing of pedestrians.” A maximum penalty of £5O is provided for a breach of this regulation.

The Ngatea School football team put up a big score on Saturday, when in a game at Ngatea the Kopuarahi School fifteen was beaten by 34 points to 3.
