FIRE AT KEREPEEHI.

BAKEHOUSE DESTROYED. SHOP AND DWELLING SAVED. A bakehouse at Kerepeehi owned by Mr H. K. Peterson and used by Mr J. Boyd was destroyed by fire at about 9 o’clock on Saturday evening. The fire had a firm hold when discovered, and nothing could be done to save the wooden building or the garage alongside containing a motor delivery van. The alarm was given at the picture entertainment, and the audience left in a body. Energies were directed towards preventing the fire spreading to. the shop and dwelling nearby, and strenuous work by a bucket brigade using water from four water-tanks proved successful. The origin of the fire cannot be ascertained, as the premises were safe when the baker and his assitant left at to spend the evening at Thames.

The insurance was £2OO in the Royal Exchange office, but this sum will not nearly cover the loss.
