SHAREMILKERS MEET.

THE N.Z. ASSOCIATION. COMMUNITY LAND SCHEME. A meeting of the executive of the N.Z. Sharemilkers’ Association was held at the head office, Belmont Road, last Thursday evening, Mr P. G. Shirley presiding. The balance-sheet submitted showed the liabilities of the association to be £8 2s 6d and the assets £2l, less two doubtful members’ subscriptions of £3. Bobby Calves. Owing to competition and the advent of the co-operative movement dealing with bobby calves, it was deemed advisable to in no way interfere this season. At the same time it was expressed that encouragement should be given to those who did their calves better. Payment on weight might induce more care. Community Land Scheme. Every confidence in the future success of the community land scheme—full particulars of which will appear later— was expressed unanimously by the executive, and the matter was made a remit for the annual meeting. This scheme was introduced by the secretary, Mr Schmitt, and has been well commented upon by Government leaders, and also by a large finance corporation. General. Four new members were elected, and two resignations were received. The secretary reported that several good milking contracts had been obtained for members, and that in two cases finance had been arranged to enable sharemilkers to find their own herds, and in one case finance for grass seed had also been arranged. It was generally agreed that until branches were opened in various centres the progress of the association would be retarded, and the difficulty in arranging branches was the obtaining of suitable men. The secretary thought that successful branches could be opened under a scheme he had in mind. There was apparently an antagonistic spirit to the association by the owners, and this was very .short-sighted, uncalled for, and unjust. This could be seen by the employment on wages rather than under co-operative contracts. It would, however, react, as there was no form of co-operation better able to advance the interests of both owner and sharemilker than a fair and equitable agreement. The membership roll showed 42 members.
