REFRESHMENT ROOM

RAILWAY IMPROVEMENT. PAEROA’S ENLARGED BUFFET. It is expected that the new restaurant at the Paeroa railway station will be completed in about five weeks’ time. The public part of the building consists of the usual type of N.Z. Railway refreshment room, with a large open fireplace at one end, in front of which passengers will be able to sit down and partake of comestibles in warm comfort. The remainder of the building comprises a large, well-fitted kitchen, where a range apparently large enough to feed a regiment will be installed to supply the needs of hungry wayfarers. A special milk-room, with appurtenances for keeping the milk cool, a fly and rat-proof storeroom, and, as illustrative of the great demand for ham sandwiches, a special ham room, together with a staff room, complete the internal arrangements. When completed, Paeroa will have a first-class railway refreshment restaurant of the most up-to-date New Zealand standard. As soon as the new building is in active use the old room, which has seen a good many years’ service, will be moved to the other end of the platform, where it will be used as a porters’ room.
