HIKUTAIA NEWS.

THE SPORTS BODY. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Hikutaia Bowling Tennis, and Croquet Club was held in the Hikutaia School on Monday evening last, the president, Mr E. Elliot, presiding. The balance-sheet showed an excess of receipts over expenditure amounting to £3B 8s 2d. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year : President, Mr E. Elliot; vice-presidents, Messrs A. R. Robinson and W. K. Morrison ; secretary, Mr I. M. Robinson ; treasurer, Mr H. S. Valentine ; green superintendent, Mt W. Morrison ; executive committee, Messrs W. Alley, W. K. Morrison, and V. Young ; auditor, Mr R. W. Evans (Paeroa). The following recommendations were forwarded to the executive committee as needing urgent attention : A raised turf or other border to be built up around the croquet lawn ; the pavilion to be painted ; the purchase of three new tennis nets ; and a suitable apparatus for heating water to be installed.

It was mentioned that the opening day would probably be the first Saturday in November! s At the conclusion of the meeting the president expressed pleasure at the hearty good feeling that had existed among the members of the association and the readiness at all times of the three sporting bodies to co-operate. BOWLING CLUB. A meeting of the Bowling Club was held in the pavilion on Monday evening, September 2, Mr E. Elliot presiding over a fair sized attendance. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year : President, Mr E. Elliot; secretary, Mr I. M. Robinson ; treasurer, Mr H. S. Valentine. PERSONAL. x Miss Hill, who has been appointed to the position of second assistant at the Hikutaia school, took up her duties yesterday morning. Mr Kelley, an old and highly esteemed resident of the district, is making slow progress towards recovery from his recent serious illness. LADIES’ HOCKEY. HIKUTAIA V. KEREPEEHI. A team of lady hockey players that was without the services of some of the foremost players journeyed to Kerepeehi in private cars and played an enjoyable game against the Kerepeehi ladies, who proved a formidable eleven. The home team won by 6 goals to 1. The scorers for Kerepeehi were Misses Myrtle Courtney (3), Martha Courtney (2), and Peggy Smith, while for Hikutaia Rene Alley, shot the goal. Messrs T. L. Morrison and D. Speedy acted as referees. After the match the visitors were entertained to afternoon tea in the hall.
