POLICE COURT.

SITTING AT PAEROA. At the Paeroa Police Court on Monday, before Mr F. W. Platts, S.M., the following cases were heard : — CYCLING WITHOUT LIGHT. Leo Clarke, Netherton, appeared in person to answer the charge of riding a bicycle without a light at Paeroa on August 13. He pleaded guilty and was fined ss, with 12s costs. THREE ON MOTOR-CYCLE.

K. O. Evans, Waihi, was charged with carrying too many people on his motor-cycle. The police charge stated that on August 11 there were more than two people on his motorcycle. which had no side-car attached ; he was carrying a person in front, and his machine was without adequate foot-rests for the use of every person carried otherwise than in a side-car. Constable McClinchy said that he saw accused, who was not present in court, at Paeroa riding a motor-cycle with a woman seated on the handlebars and a man on the carrier with his feet trailing, there being no footrests.

Sergeant Calwell stated that the practice was dangerous and called foi punishment It was a too common practice for young people to carry someone on the tank or carrier.

Evans pleaded guilty, but excused the lack of foot-rests by the fact that the machine had lately been repaired and the rests had not been put back again.

Accused was fined 20s and 10s costs.
