POWER BOARD.

QUESTION OF REPRESENTATION HAURAKI PLAINS INVOLVED. When the question of Putararu representation on the Thames Valley Power Board came up at the last meeting of the board Mr H. Torr said that the Hauraki Plains was also interested on the subject of added representation. Mr J. Price thought that representation should be oh the ward system. This would enable the board to obviate reshuffling with the increase in population of town districts. Rising places like Ngatea and Kerepeehi would soon be in a position to have town boards. He did not think revenue was such an important factor to take into consideration, and suggested that the capital value and population of each riding should be shown in the report to be brought down. The riding might be f taken as the basis of the ward system. The chairman said Mr Price had raised an important point. He thought it advisable for the executive to meet before the next meeting and go thoroughly into the whole matter. Mr H. M. Corbett was emphatically of the opinion that valuation was the most important. The local body with the valuation must stand behind the board. Population shifted, and he would like to see a town board bracketed with a county. The manager intimated that it would constitute a difficult matter to allocate the revenue to the different districts. Mr Price was of opinion the whole question had to be cleared up before next September, and the chairman remarked that all data should be secured to enable a report to be brought down, while Mr F. E. Flatt thought it was desirable to arrive at conditions that would be fixed for some time to come. It was finally decided that the matter be left in the hands of the special finance committee to prepare a report for the next meeting, each member to supply any information in his possession to the committee.
