A. AND P. ASSOCIATION

THE HAURAKI BODY. ANNUAL MEETING. The 31st annual general meeting of the Hauraki Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Wednesday night, Mr P. R. Hubbard, president, presiding. After the minutes of the last meeting had been read, the meeting stood a moment in silence in memory of the late Mr W. J. Hall, who, the chairman said, had been an enthusiastic and valued member of the association.

The annual report and balancesheet, as published in Wednesday’s issue, was adopted. On the question of bad debts the secretary, Mr E. Edwards, explained that a number of these were caused through exhibitors from outside districts paying a membership subscription for a year and then allowing it to lapse for two or three years when not exhibiting, and not sending in their resignations. In the discussion of costs of repairs to the stockyards, Mr E. L. Shaw maintained that the yard for grade eattle should be repaired. The secretary reported that the bank indebtedness had been reduced still further than the sum appearing on the balance-sheet, reducing it to £270.

Show Date. Thursday, December 5, was decided on as the annual show date. General. It was decided to affiliate with the Auckland Provincial Council of Affiliated A. and P. Associations. Resignations were accepted with regret from Messrs W. G. Marsh and K. Slyfield. It was left to the secretary to bring before the stewards the matter of appointing assistant stewards? Prize Moneys. Mr B. E. Veale considered that the prize moneys, more especially for cattle, were -too low, and he advocated an increase as an added inducement. It was now an important meeting, with exhibitors from all over the country. He favoured the doubling of awards. The chairman remarked that already a large amount was apportioned for prize moneys Mr E P. Fathers thought that as the association was short of cash it would be wiser to get out of debt before increasing the expenditure. Mr Veale considered that an increase in prize money would induce more entries, and thereby increase receipts.

Upon Mr A. F. Steedman remarking that exhibitors entered for what honour and glory might result, Mr Veale said they had been doing that for 20 years ; now they wanted something more tangible. Mr H. J. Hare, in supporting Mr Veale, mentioned that he had been informed by officials from other shows that the Hauraki’s prize money was too small. He favoured an increase as an added inducement.

It was eventually decided to refer the matter to the executive committee, with a recommendation that prize moneys in the cattle section be raised. Industrial Exhibits. Mr Hare brought up the question of rentage applicable to industrial exhibits, and suggested that members of the association should receive special consideration. The subject was left to the executive committee to go into. Election of Officers. The following officers for the ensuing year were elected :— Patron, Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P.; president, Mr P. R.
