C. Ifwersen kicked off, with a diagonal wind blowing, the ball going out. Rackham set Piako going on a dribbling rush, a penalty on the home twenty-five checking them. Ifwersen saved from a hot Paeroa attack by marking. McGarvey tried a cut in, but the defence was too strong. Neil went down on the ball to check a Piako forwrv-,1 rush. From a penalty Swann had a fruitless shot at goal. Piako put on the pressure, Neil saving with a mark. The visitors, attempted a number of drop-kicks. McNeil received from a scrum and carried play to Piako’s twenty-five line, where it became fast and keen, neither side gaining the advantage. A. C. McCollum got away on a. good run until Payne sent him out. From a mark Rackham made a good attempt at a drop-kick. Piako set off in a nice passing movement, Reid losing the ball to McNeil, who punted down the line. In the followi-up Paeroa had the worst of bad luck in not going over for a try. Soon after the change-over Piako went on the offensive, and a sustained forward rush saw Payne cross the line. Rackham converted. Piako 5, Paeroa 0. A knockon spoilt the Piako backs in action. From a penalty Swann put in a fine line-kick. Rackham mulled, and the home forwards took control until Carrick when a yard or two from the line was tripped by an opponent, which spoilt him from scoring what appeared to be a sure try. Piako carried to the other end and had Paeroa in a dangerous position whpn an infringement brought relief for the home team. Goldsbury at full was very shakey. He missed a ball in shocking style and Paeroa followed up well, Bax going over. Swann failed with the kick. Piako 5, Paeroa 3. Rackham stopped a kick by Swann. Fitch was putting in some deadly tackling. A. C. McCollum received from a line-out and set the backs going, McGarvey spoiling the movement by missing his pass. F. Goldsbury marked. From a penalty on the twenty-five line Swann narrowly missed a goal. McGarvey cut in neatly and upset a Piako passing bout. Half-time went with Paeroa attacking. On the resumption Piako immediately attacked. Carrick headed a strong Paeroa forward rush, from which Rackham picked up and sent out to Ifwersen.' All the backs handled, but an in-pass on the side line was intercepted by Swann and the movement broke down. Piako took the offensive again, and after two abortive rushes Rackham went over. The kick failed. Piako 8, Paeroa 3. In a scrummage on the line Piako lost a golden chance. Another scrummage at the same place saw Rackham shoot the ball out to Ifwersen, to Reid, but the latter pass was forward. Play was confined to Paeroa’s territory. The Piako backs were putting in some fierce short passing bouts, and Paeroa was hard pressed. After three Paeroa men had fumbled in face of a Piako forward rush McNeil saved the situation with a good kick. The home team had to fight all out at the corner to hold the visitors. Evenually Swann forced. Paeroa recovered somewhat and worked out to midfield. Paeroa’s tackling was weak. McNeil punted down the line, and in following up looked like regaining possession for a possible try, but was obstructed by an oponent. On the change-over Rackham sent his backs away, a wild pass by Ifwersen spoiling the movement. A great fight in midfield took place, McCollum and Swann showing up well. Rackham gained possession at half way and cut in nicely to run on as far as the twenty-five before pasing to N. Ifwersen, who outpaced the opposition to score a good try in the corner. C. Ifwersen failed to convert. Piako 51, Paeroa 3. The visiting backs again took control and Rare had to force. Fitch, Carrick, and Neil were doing great work, rushing into everything. Ifwersen attempted a penalty kick at goal from half-way, the ball failing short. D. McLaren retired hurt, being replaced by Clarkin. Another pretty passing, bout by Piako ended in the ball going out near the flag. From the line-out Paeroa was saved by an infringement. Training had long begun to tell, Paeroa weakening visibly, with Piako apparently as fresh a« when the game started. McNeil made a splendid effort along the line. A forward pass spoilt the Piako backs in action. Goldsbury marked from a kick by McCollum, but his effort gained very little ground. A dribble by Reid was negatived by Rare. Piako set off again, Swann being the stum-bling-block. Fitch got in a gobd solo dribble. Goldsbury mulled the ball, but managed to find the line in time. The final bell went with Piako in the ascendency and the scores Piako 11, Paeroa 3. Mr W. Dunstan, Waihi, was referee.

DENT CUP FINAL. WAITAKARURU WINS CONTEST. The final of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union’s knock-out competition for the Dent Cup was played at Ngatea on Saturday, when the Waitakaruru team met and defeated the Kerepeehi fifteen by six points to nil. The weather was good and there was a slight breeze, but the wetness of the ground made the ball very heavy and difficult to handle or kick with any degree of accuracy. Both teams were weaker* than they were at the height of the season, and included many juniors. The game was interesting, but not of a high standard, and a draw was fully expected until four minutes from the end, when Waitakaruru scored. Time had been called, but before play was stopped Waitakaruru secured another try. The teams were as follows :— Kerepeehi.—R. Burt, N. Baggs, P. Reti, E. Potter, A. Burt, H. Wright, Troughton, W. Kidd, S. Nichelson, C. Murray, R. Fisher. R. Smith, J. Baggs, A. Nicholson, L. Samson. Waitakaruru.—C. Wilton, L. Hill, L, Coxhead, K. Findlay, J. Adlum, A. Coombs. N. Marshall, F. Donaghy, K. McCollum, K. Caie, J. Lyes, R. Beasley, H. Dimmock, M. Caie, W. Dimmock. Waitakaruru kicked off and followed up to the Kerepeehi line, where from a scrum a long kick “ent play to midfield. A loose Kerepeehi rush compelled a force. Open play followed in midfield, Kerepeehi gaining ground. Wilton forced. A shot at goal by Kerepeehi followed a passing rush, but no score resulted and play returned to midfield. Wright, Murray, and Samson led the Kerepeehi forwards into Waitakaruru’s territory, and again a Penalty kick failed. Adlum carried to the other end of the field, but fai’ed with a free kick. Hard forward play ensued in Kerepeehi'territory until Murray relieved. Close forward play, interspersed -with long kicking bouts followed, the pace of the game improving. Play was in Waitakaruru’s twenty-five at the call of time. The second round opened with a strong Waitakaruru forward attack. Kerepeehi had the better of the play in the scrums. Murray and Wright were playing sterling football, and were the only ones to follow up. A long tight struggle ensued in Kerepeehi’s twenty-five, and after a fiveyards scrum Waitakaruru failed to score with an easy penalty kick. Kerepeehi backs with open play and a series of short passing rushes worked out to midfield, where hard forward play followed until half-time. Early in the second half of the game Samson led the Kerepeehi pack to the attack. A penalty did not bring Waitakaruru relief, and Troughton and Murray by following up well compelled a force. Long kicking sent Waitakaruru to the attack, close for ward play ensuing in neutral ground. The Dimmock brothers led Waitakaruru down the field, A Nicholson relieving. More long kicking f flowed, the pace of the game having slackened considerably. A loose forward rush by Kerepeehi got to the line, where Lyes forced. Samson on his own made a good run, but lost to Lyes, who forced. Lyes saved again, and h'icd marked, but the latter failed to score with the kick.

The pace improved considerably in th? last round. Waitakaruru kept on the attack, and play was in Kerepeehi’s twenty-five until Kidd broke through to the other end of the field. The Waitakaruru forwards socn re- a taliated, and then, led ly Samson and Murray, the outstanding forwards of; the team, Kerepeehi rushed on attack. Marshall' relieved from a scrum in front of the goal. Wilton retired and was replaced by Brooks. Open play followed in neutral ground, and a cross-kick went out to Brodks, who. went over to score the first try. Beasley failed to convert. Waitakaruru 3, Kerepeehi 0. With only three minutes to go the pace became very fast, although the Waitakaruru players sent the ball out of play on several occasions. From the drop-ont play went' to Waitakaruru’s tirritv-y, where from a throw-in Dimmock broke, away, carried the ball to Kerepeehi’s line, and then passed to Marshall for him to score. Beasley’s kick failed, and the game ended, Waitakaruru 6,1 Kerepeehi 0. Mr A. Cleave was referee. POLAND CUP MATCHES. ALTERATION IN DATES.
