(By “Onlooker.”) A good wet-day game was witnessed between East and Suburbs. E. Moore played his usual safe game, and was kicking well. McQuarters put in some dashing solo runs, and is getting back to his old form. H. Moore played a very fine game, and handled the greasy ball in masterly fashion. All the East backs played well, Treanor being very safe at fullback. N. Neil was in good form, and was hooking in good style, the ball coming out very quickly at times. The East forwards were at home in the mud and all played well. Suburbs did not handle the greasy ball as well as the East players, and were not too good on defence. Rare at full-back had a lot to do and played well. Mcßae was playing a hard game, and at times mixed it a little. The forwards, mostly headed by Vedder, were nil playing hard, but were well beaten by the East pack, Wyatt, Vedder. and Duncan being the pick of the Suburbs pack. The Pirates v. West match was a poor game.
Bax played a very safe game for Pirates at full-back. McCollum, on the wing, did not have much to do. Saunders at half-back played a good game, and was well supported by A. C. McCollum at five-eighths. Ratliff played well in the forwards, and was the pick of a pocr lot.
Verran at full back for West did very well. Swann was about their best back, and a good kick by him put West on the winning list. Carrick was the pick of the forwards, and has been playing good football this season. This team will need to field its ffiest to have a chance of winning the knock out cup, as East wiH take a good deal of beating on last Saturday’s performance.
