The street stall on Saturday in aid of the Farmers’ Queen was a financial success, in spite of the inclement weather. The number of poultry received exceeded ' expectations, but all the dressed ones were disposed of before mid-afternoon. Four ducks and one rooster were left unsold towards evening, together with a small quantity of vegetables and preserves. Mr D. G. McMillian’s services were again requisitioned. A large crowd soon gathered, and his entertaining method of disposing of the goods served the double purpose of keeping the onlookers in the best of good humour and considerably adding to the cash takings. In a very short time there was nothing saleable left on the stall. The winners of the competitions were as follows : Box of sweets, Mrs G. Death, whose estimate of 190 beans in a bottle was correct; lady’s handbag and d’oyley, A. Kingston, 289, the correct number of beans. The large; handsomely decorated cake presented by Mr B. Halligan resulted in a tie between. Mr G. Berry and Master W. Holes, who each take half the cake.

SPORTS QUEEN.

COLLECTING FOR GALA.

Miss Thelma Simmonds as an old hayseed farmer, and Miss Violet Charlesworth as her sailorboy son, created a humorous diversion on Saturday collecting on behalf of the Sports Queen’s gala. Miss Simmonds might have stepped out of one of Eden Philpott’s books, and Miss Charlesworth from one of W. W. Jacob’s. As A result of their effort the Sports Queen fund will benefit not a little.
