WONDERFUL ADVANCEMENT.
STATISTICS FOR COUNTY.
Hauraki Plains County, although small in size, ranks high among the counties of New Zealand in total annual revenue and expenditure. Reference to the Local Authorities Hand-book, 1929, which quotes the 1927-28 accounts, shows that Hauraki Plains County ranked twentieth in receipts from rates, licenses and fees,, ferry fees, etc., and fourth in total expenditure. *This was from a total of 132 counties in the Dominion. The volume of revenue and expenditure, and also the wonderful advancement, is shown by the following table: Rate revenue : 1926, £15,459 ; 1927, £22,617 ; 1928, £23,519 ; 1929, £36,697. Total ordinary revenue : 1916, £lB,-* 028 ; 1927, £29,798 ; 1928, £31,406 ; 1929, £44,105.
Total receipts (including loans and subsidies) : 1926, £58,335; 1927, £lOO,719 ; 1928 ; £62,125 ; 1929, £72,762. Total expenditure : 1926, £57,536 ; 1927, £83,343 ; 1928, £92,216; 1929, £65,796.
Concerning the cost of administration, the average for New Zealand, calculated on ordinary revenue of administrative salaries, was shown as 5.22 per cent., while Hauraki Plains was only 3.86 per cent. Calculated on the total expenditure, the Dominion average was 3.48 per cent., while Hauraki Plains County was only 1.87 per cent.
