paeroa rugby union. WEEKLY MEETING. The regular meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union management committee was held on Monday night, Mr J. Crosby, chairman, presiding over the following : Messrs J. C. H. McDonald, W. Neil,* W. J. Pratley, H. Robinson, J. Walmsley, and W. A. Fathers (hon secretary). . General. ~The application from the West Club for the regrading of E. Verran from junior to third grade was granted. The playing of Verran in a senior match .on Saturday last was accepted, and at the same time it was agreed that it should not interfere with his status as a third-grade player. -The action of the chairman and sec- . retary in arranging a third-grade representative match with. Te Aroha at Te Aroha on Saturday next was endorsed, it being decided to notify the selector accordingly. Managers appointed for Saturday next were as follows : Seniors, Mr J. C. H. McDonald; juniors, Mr W. Neil; third-grade. Mr H. Robinson. The entertainment of the Waihi juniors was left in the hands of Mr J. Walmsley and the secretary. The secretary was instructed to write to the Thames Valley Rugby Union and ask what arrangements had been made for the third-grade McClean Cup competition and to notify it of the forthcoming match with Te Aroha on Saturday. The arrangements for the replaying of the. East v. Suburbs match on July 20 were left in theffiand of the chairman and secretary. The representative teams, as submitted, were received. Permission was granted to play a primary schools match between Paeroa and Waihi at Paeroa as a curtainraiser on Saturday. Six complimentary tickets were approved for schoolteachers for Saturday’s games at Paeroa. The matter of helping the primary schools financially was left over until the next meeting. The secretary was instructed to notify the Veterans Club that the union must have the names of its players by Monday next. Accounts totalling £9 18s ,6d were passed for payment. .Messrs J. M. Crosby, W. Fathers, And W. J. Pratley were appointed voluntary gatekeepers for Saturday. Knock-out Competition. ‘First round: Pirates v. Veterans. Second round: West v. winners of Pirates-West match; Suburbs v. East. Ratana Cup. Mr W. G. Royal, Thames Valley Maori football team, wrote that his team’s challenge for the Ratana Challenge Cup (presented for competition amongst the Maoris) had bee accepted by the holders, the King Country. The ; match would be played at Te Kuiti on July 18. Mr Royal asked for the loan of the union’s representative jerseys for the above match, in return' his team offering ;to donate £1 Is to the unions funds and to be responsible for the return of the jerseys and replacement of qny damaged and torn in the match. : * It was decided to loan the jerseys on condition that they were returned before July 20. "rover, Welch; forwards, Corbett, Avery, Williams, Edwards, Prenderville, Bramley, Campbell. Emer- ‘ gencies : Pascoe and Potter. PEACE CUP CHALLENGES. CAMBRIDGE DISSATISFIED. At the weekly meeting of the Cambridge Rugby Union, dissatisfaction was expressed at this season's arrangements for the playing of Peace Cup challenges by ,the holders, the Morrinsville Union. Disappointment was felt that Cambridge and Waipa, and also Piako and Paeroa had to play elimination games before they could contest the Peace Cup, the feeling being that if one sub-union was called upon to play an elimination game all the challengers would have to subnet to the same procedure. The Union strongly Complained at the challenges being -lodged for the trophy before the beginning of each new season. The .following recommendation was ■unanimously carried : “That it be a recommendation to the Waikato Union and to the holders of the Peace Cup, that the rules be altered to provide that no challenge be entered until after the annual meetings of the sub-unions for each new season,, and that all the challenges must be lodged
by the end of April > also, that in the M event of there being more challengers W than dates available, all challenges be subject to elimination games, the I, elimination to be by ballot if necesThe union further decided ■' that a copy of the recommendation be sent to all sub-unions asking their support
