HAURAKI DRAINAGE.

. PLAINS WEST BOARD. MONTHLY MEETING. The Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board held its monthly meeting at Ngatea on Thursday last, Mr C. W. Parfitt presiding over Messrs. T. A. McClean, A. Douglas, and J. Motion. The clerk (Mr E. L. Wftlton). and the foreman (Mr E. Flavell) were in attendance. Foreman’s Report. The board’s foreman reported that owing to the wet weather it had not been possible to have all the slips removed from drains ,but this work was now well in hand. The wooden culvert in Dudding’s outlet had been replaced with ten eighteen-inch pipes placed one foot deeper. The contractors had commenced work on Davidson’s outlet. All other contract work was progressing satisfactorily. Bank Overdraft. The Bank of New Zealand advised that the board’s overdraft had been fixed at £lOOO. in accordance with its request. Piping of Drain. The chairman reported that the ( County Council’s water supply engineer, Mr E. F. Adams, had reported to the council’s water committee that it was desirable to pipe the roadside drain near the blacksmith shop at Waitakaruru to prevent the water mains slipping into the drain. Mr Adams had recommended that the water supply loan bear two-thirds of the cost, and that the balance be borne by the County Council, as the road would be improved, and by the drainage board. There was no doubt that a big slip would take place unless protective measures were taken, and th? clearage would be at the trench made for the water pipes. It was agreed to pay up to onesixth of the total cost. Finance, The treasurer reported that the hank overdraft stood at £512 18s sd, and accounts presented for payment totalled £320 2s Id. Improving Road Drain. Mr Motion advocated improving the Ngatea-Pipiroa road drains from near Andrews’ shed, on both sides, to the intersection of Davidson”s drain, somewhere near -F. A. Johnstone s. The spoil could be sold for haunching the highway.

It was agreed to call tenders for this work, and for a similar job on the south side of the Pipiroa township drain. Mr A. Douglas was authorised to have the west end of the Rawerawe Road drain cleaned.
