MILITARY NOTES.

THE hauraki regiment.

Colonel J. E. Duigan, D. 5.0., Acting Brigadier, Northern Command, inspected various units of the Hauraki Regiment, while on an official tour of the No. 2 Regimental District last weelc. On Monday evening he inspected the territorials at Paeroa, and expressed himself as highly pleased with the work of the N.C.O’s. On Tuesday afternoon the Waih: High Schoo’ Cadets were inspected, and in the same evening the Paeroa cadets. Thames High School Cadets were visited on Wednesday afternoon and on Thursday the acting-Brigadier inspected the Tauranga cadets, and the territorials in the evening. On Friday morning Colonel Duigan flew back to Auckland in an Auckland Aero Club Moth plane piloted by Major Cowper. Presentation of Colours.

The new Colours for the Hauraki’s have been ordered through their allied regiment in England—the .Oxs and Bucks Light Infantry — and should arrive in New Zealand in December. Preparations for the presenting of the Colours at the Paeroa camp in February are steadily proceeding, and indications point to a large number of visitors from the districts involved. It is thought it will be possible to arrange special trains at excursion prices. Band. The band recently formed at Paeroa, consisting mainly of Paeroa cadets, has been approved by General Headquarters, and has now become the No. 2 Regimental District Cadet Band. Courses. This week officers and N.C.O’s of mounted rifle regiments, Northern Command, will assemble at Narrow Neck camp for a six days’ course of instruction. To-day a course of instruction on platoon weapons commences at Trentham for selected members of the N.Z.P.S., at the same time, instruction for other members of the N.Z.P.S. will be given in physical and recreational training. The number, of courses for territorials has been increased this year. Physical training will last from the 18th to the 24th August, at Trentham. On the 22nd August field officers will attend at Cambridge for a six-day course of tactics. The instructional course for candidates for first appointments to commission, and the examination will be held at Waikato camp, Ngaruawahia, early in September. The New Zealand Army Rifle Association meeting will be held at Trentham from the 11th to the 14th March, 1930,
