RESULTS AT A GLANCE. LAST SATURDAY’S MATCHES. Seniors. East 3, v. West 0. Suburbs 15, v. Pirates 11. Turua 22, v. Waitakaruru 0. West 14, v. Ngatea 0. Juniors. East 6, v. Suburbs 0. Waitakaruru 9, v. Turua 3. Maramarua 3, v. Ngatea 0. EAST V. WEST. Twenty minutes late, the following teams took the field :— East.—Allison, McNeil, E. Moore, McQuarters, Moore, Kusabs, Eskrigge, Treanor, Nealie, Williams, Neil, E. Neil, Murray, Fitch, Johnson. West.—Fraser, Verran, Swann, E. Verran, Wells, Poland, Hale, Nield, Carrick, Henderson, Brown, Page, Kerr, Chisholm. West kicked off with the wind. Moore set his backs going, Fraser saving with a kick. West pressing, Neil saved by kicking the ball dead. Verran with a kick into touch held up East. From a kick across the field McNeil gathered and dodging the only West man near him went over to score far out. The kick failed. East 3, West 0. A wild pass near the line on the wing spoiled East of a probable score. With a kick and follow up Swann took his side from their own to their opponents’ twenty-five. Scrappy and poor play characterised the first quarter, the only Rugby played being an occasional nice passing bout by the East backs. McNeil for East and J. Verran for West were doing more than their fair ssare. A splendid run through by Wells was spoilt by his giving a bad pass. McNeil was putting in some brilliant work. E. Moore had the worst of hard luck with a penalty kick from half-way, the ball striding the post and rebounding into play. A very fast run with an excellent line kick well up by Swann cleared West out of a dangerous situation. Carrick effectively stopped a kick by McQuarters by smothering him. Time and again McNeil showed up to advantage. On resumption after half-time there was no improvement in the play, combination being entirely lacking and only a few players showing well individually. A straggling rush by West ended in East forcing. Both Verrans were clearing well in defence, kicking with cool judgment. Cutting in on an East passing bout near the line started by McQuarters, Page started a movement that carried play into East’s twenty-five. Just before the change-over Swann missed the posts with a fine attempt from a penalty. A wild go-as-you-please rush down the field by West ended in the ball being kicked dead. Lacking energy from the start of the game, the majority of the p’ayers were passengers in the last quarter, in some cases actually standing still and letting men run round hhem. Only a handful of men attempted to play. Swann secured a clever and good mark. Another irregular happy-go-lucky stampede by West 'finished with a dead ball. Swann carried the ball in fine style to near the line, but there was no one to take his pass. Carrick again stopped a kick by McQuarters. Allison broke up a rush by falling on the ball. A very fine kick by Swann from a penalty was too low. Towards the end Swann and Wejls individually livened things up, a bit, but lacked support. Kusabs made a fine attempt to break through. J. Verran again did some pretty work. Page marked. A very poor and uninteresting game ended : East 3, West 0. SUBURBS V. PIRATES. In the match .between Suburbs and Pirates, played at Paeroa, the former team won by 15 points to 11. JUNIORS,: EAST V. SUBURBS.
