OBITUARY.
MRS. J. B. STEEDMAN. Another of the band of our grand old pioneers passed away at Auckland on Thursday last in the person of Mrs Lillias Clarke Steedman, widow of the late Mr J. B. Steedman, at the ripe old age of 91 years. The deceased lady spent many years at Thames, and saw the stirring times of the early mining days there, and later with her husband resided at Waikawau, on the Thames coast, where Mr Steedman carried on farming pursuits. Typical of the early settlers, she was ever ready to extend hospitality and render assistance to those in need. Her husband took a keen interest in local affairs, and was one of the first members of the Thames County Council. He was well known as a mine manager, having been in charge of the famous .Caledonian mine. The deceased leaves to mourn the loss of an affectionate mother three daughters, Mesdames J. G. Ralph and W. Fraser, of Auckland, and Mrs R. B. Hudson, of Thames, and two sons, Mr J. D. Steedman, of Whangarei, and Mr A. F. Steedman, manager of the local branch of the Bank of New Zealand ; and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchil-dren.
