MR. SAMUEL’S INTENTIONS
SEVERAL QUESTIONS TO ASK.
With the reassembling of Parliament Mr A. M. Samuel, the member for Thames electorate, will have several important questions to ask at the first opportunity. The most important so far as Paeroa is most directly concerned will be when Mr Samuel asks the Minister of Railways will he inform the House and the country generally if and when the Government intends to build the Paeroa-Pokeno railway. This matter has been the subject of various deputations which have approached the Minister of Railways and other Ministers of the Crown from time to time. In every case the early reply which was promised has not yet materialised.
In the matter of unemployment Mr Samuel will ask the Minister of Public Works if he will make a definite statement as to how men who have been put off public works, and others who have been thrown out of employment, are to be re-employed.
There are a number of men in the Thames electorate out of employment. Some of them have been discharged from public works. All these m-m have been promised that the Minister is making inquiries regarding further work for them, and they are anxiously awaiting a definite reply. On the subject of State advances, the Prime Minister will be questioned as to whether applications totalling well over £1,000,000 are still before the State Advances Department awaiting disposal.
