BOROUGH WORKS.
COMMITTEE’S REPORT, The following report was presented by the Works Committee to the Paeroa Borough Council at its last meeting :—. “Maintenance. —Some attention has been paid during the past month to the maintenance of secondary streets. Station Road, Rye Lane, Coronation Road have been patched and blinded, and Taylor’s Avenue has been treated with the grader. Some of the worst footpaths have also.been dressed with sand or screenings. Small places in the bitumen surfaces requiring attention have been patched with Colfix. All fire hydrants have been inspected and cleaned out, and all water channels kept free. “Sewer Extension. —The work authorised is practically completed. “Borough Chambers. —A concrete path has been laid to the back door and a portion of the yard, from office to shed, fenced off and grassed. This completes this work.
“Improvements.—The bank on the approach to the traffic bridge from Dr. Little’s to the bridge has been covered with soil and grass seed sown. “The above works complete all special work which was in hand, and the ordinary staff has been reduced to the permanent hands, with the exception of the drain-layer, who will finish this week.
“Unemployment Relief. —A commencement was made on Monday with piping and filling drains, and it is hoped to take on a few more men shortly.”
