CADMAN’S ROAD AGAIN
ANOTHER CAR OVER. FORTUNATE ESCAPE. Adding to its already unsavoury reputation, Findlay’s Crossing at Cadman’s Road, near Tirohia, increased its record of accidents by another one when, on Saturday night, a comparatively new Chevrolet tourer went off the road. The driver of the car, who was travelling from Te Aroha towards Paeroa, was apparently dazzled by lights ahead and confused by the low-lying fog. On crossing the railway lines the car left the road and plunged over the bank into the drain, the rear wheels hanging precariously and somewhat miraculously on to the edge of the road. A serious accident was narrowly averted by the presence of mind of the driver in janibing on the brakes hard when he felt that all was not well.
Fortunately no one was hurt, and the car was little damaged, but all the same the question arises, or, rather, is constantly before one, when is this disgraceful state of affairs going to be remedied ? To have a deathtrap on such an important highway as the Te Aroha-Paeroa one—or for that matter on any road —is a damning disgrace to those responsible. The Ohinemuri County Council has done, and is doing, its best in the matter : it is up to the Railway Department to act, and act it should—immediately.
