PAEROA-POKENO LINE.
MINISTER’S PROPOSED VISIT. EXPECTED ARRIVAL ON FRIDAY His Worship the Mayor has received intimation that the Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister of Railways, will inspect the proposed Paeroa-Pokeno line on Friday, and that he will have much pleasure in accepting the Paeroa Borough Council’s invitation to luncheon. The Minister will leave Auckland at 8.30 a.m., and will be met on arrival at Pokeno by the Mayor and Mr A. P. Grant, acting-engineer of the Public Works Department, Paeroa The party will then proceed by car 1 to inspect the already surveyed proposed route which runs via Waitakaruru and Ngatea to Paeroa.
On arrival here the Minister will be entertained to luncheon at 1 p.m. To this luncheon have been invited all Members of Parliament and members of the various local bodies interested.
During part of the afternoon the Minister will in all probability receive deputations prior to leaving for Frankton Junction to join the Wellington express. Mr Taverner has already received several deputations with reference to the Paeroa-Pokeno deviation, and has stated that the project has his sympathy. His interest now goes a step further, and by his agreeing to make a personal visit and inspection of the 44-mile route he shows that the matter has gone beyond deputations and is perhaps soon to be launched within the realms of possibility.
