DISTRICT NEWS.
WAITAKARURU. PLUNKET SOCIETY. In order to raise the annual charges for- the maintenance of the Plunket Society’s work in Waitakaruru the local branch has arranged a baby “King and Queen” Carnival. The district has been divided into three areas —Pipiroa Road, Canal Road, and Western District. House parties and socials in the hall are being held almost nightly in order to secure votes for one or another of the prospective “Royal” babies. The Western candidates are Mi’ and Mrs C. Stretton’s daughter and Mr and Mrs J. D. Fagan’s son, and the Pipiroa Road district’s hopes are centred in Mr and Mrs J. Poland’s daughter and Mr and Mrs G. French’s son. As a great many of the Canal Road settlers have been visited by the influenza epidemic they have not yet entered into active work. The competition will conclude with a fancy dress ball for children next month, when the crowning will take place.
