ORPHANS’ CLUB.
OPENING OF FIFTH SESSION. MANY VISITORS ENTERTAINED. On Wednesday last week the Paeroa Orphans held their first evening of their fifth session. Mr W. Marshall was voted to the chair, and there were some 80 persons presen*:, including brethren and visitors. The musical programme was supplied by artists from Thames consisting of Messrs J. Buchan and his orchestra, J. Galloway (baritone), J. Beeche, W. Bongard, J. Briggs, H. Cordes, and L. Griffin. A selection from the Lyric Quartette opened the evening’s programme, followed by vocal renderings by members of the orchestra, and much appreciated items by Mr J. Williams.
After supper Mr Marshall gave an outstanding, most interesting, and erudite address on psychology in public life, its relation thereto, and various phases of the same. A most instructive pronouncement, the address was heard with appreciative attention. Before the conclusion of a very pleasant evening Mr Marshall, on behalf of the Club, presented Messrs J. Beeche, W. Bongard, J. Briggs, J. Buchan, H. Cordes, J. Galloway, and L. Griffin with the club’s badge and made them honorary members, together with Mr E. Watson, who was not present. The chairman remarked upon and thanked those gentlemen for, the excellent way they had assisted the club in the past by coming to its aid on numerous occasions and adding to the pleasures of its gatherings. Mr Bongard, on behalf of the recipients, suitably responded.
