PAEROA RUGBY UNION. WEEKLY MEETING. The regular meeting of the Paeroa Rugby Union management committee was held on Monday night, Mr J. Crosby, chairman, presiding over the following : Messrs J. C. McDonald, W. Nbil, J. W. Pratley, H. Robinson, J. Walmsley, W. Fathers (secretary), and club delegates. Registrations. The following registrations were effected : East seniors, A. Anderson and E. Moore ; East juniors, A. Nelson; West juniors, S. Williams; United third-grade, C. Gleeson. An Unqualified Player. After considerable discussion it was decided to declare the match between Suburbs and East at Hikutaia on the 18th inst. no match, on account of the playing of O’Hara against the union’s ruling. The match would be played at a later date, as arranged by the union. Request for Postponement. A request from West seniors that their match with Suburbs on Saturday next be postponed because many of their players wished to go to their distant homes for the long week-end was not agreed to. First-aid Attendant. As Mr W. Smith had notified the union that he could not accept the proffered position as first-aid attendant, it was decided to ask Messrs T. C. Arnold and E. Smith to act conjointly in this capacity. Referees’ Reports. The referee (Mr J. M. Crosby) of the West v. East senior game on Saturday reported that there were too many comments on the part of players. Mr T. C. Arnold, on behalf of the Referees’ Association, reported that there was considerable encroachment on the field by spectators at the Pirates v. Suburbs match on Saturday. He also asked that the twenty-five and half-way flags be set further back, as they were dangerous at their present distance of 2ft from the side line. Gatekeepers. Messrs J. C. McDonald and L. E. Shaw were appointed voluntary gatekeepers foi* Saturday next. Conference with Thames Union. The meeting was apprised of the result of a conference between delegates from the Thames Union and the Paeroa Union relative ,to boundaries. The decision arrived at by the conference was :— “That the Thames Union for the present season, 1929, agrees to a neutral zone at the end of Townshend Road so defined as to include the following players : Archie McCollum, Allan McCollum, and H. Bax: the matter to be finalised by the Thames Rugby Union at its annual meeting, and the Paeroa Rugby Union to be notified in writing directly after the annual meeting.” On the motion of Mr J. C. McDonald it was decided that the arrangements made by the Paeroa Rugby Union delegates be agreed to if ratified by the Thames Union. PAEROA REFEREES. FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. At the fortnightly meeting of the Paeroa .Referees’ Association held on Saturday evening there were present Messrs H. Neil (chairman), C. Arnold, F. Cassidy, J. M. Crosby, T. W. Jonas, L. E. Shaw, H. T. Wilton, and E. Smith (hon. secretary). General. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr H. M. Shand for his past services, and he was elected a life member. Mr F. Cassidy, was added to the list of active referees. Mr Arnold was empowered to bripg before the. Paeroa Rugby Union the subject of spectators crowding on to the playing areas.* . In the matter of funds in arrears to the Thames Valley Referees’ Association, it was left in the hands of Messrs Arnold and Smith to ascertain the amount owing. Each active referee was supplied with a 1929 N.Z. Referees’ Handbook. Mr Keighley, the only player present, asked several questions, which were answered. Meetings and Players. It was decided to hold meetings every second Saturday at 7.30 p.m. An invitation was extended to players to attend the fortnightly meetings and get themselves conversant with the rules and laws of the game. Insurance Scheme. A sub-committee, consisting of the chairman, secretary, and Mr J. Walmsley, was appointed to meet the secretaries of the various clubs affiliated to the union to consider the adoption of either of the insurance proposals as drawn up.
