A COAST RESERVE.
SUPPORT FROM PAEROA. MINISTER FAVOURABLE. On Monday afternoon, when the Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, was receiving deputations at the Borough Council Chambers, the Mayor, Mi - W. Marshall, brought to the Minister’s notice that his council was in full accord and sympathy with the Thames Borough Council’s attempt to secure a public reserve at Waiomio. Mr Marshall pointed out that in years to come great use would be made of the Thames coast. One could easily visualise the day when the population of the Thames Valley would be a million. It was the present generation’s duty to hand down to posterity some place such as the Thames Council proposed. There was no question as to the number of people using the Thames coast as a pleasure resort. The last Paeroa school picnic had been held there, making it possible for a large number of children who had never seen the sea to have their longing fulfilled. In future more and more affairs, of this sort would take place there. As an outlet for the inland districts it was ideal in every way. The Paeroa Council’s resources were limited, but it supported the Thames effort in every way possible. It was not only a public reserve of only purely local interest, but of advantage to a large district.
Mr Forbes said he was glad to hear of the council’s support in the matter. It was certainly of more than local interest. He promised to go into the matter when it came up.
