PAEROA HIGH SCHOOL.
ORDINARY MEETING. i The monthly meeting of the Paeroa School Committee was held last night, Mr J. C. McDonald, chairman, presiding over the following : Messrs J. W. Brocket, C. Holes, R. W. Lowry, C. T. Mettam, G. H. Taylor (headmaster), and G. E. Allen (secretary). Appointment to Committee. The secretary' of the Education Board notified that the recoinmendation that Mr W. T. Power be appointed to the vacant seat on the committee would be dealt with at the board’s next meeting. Conveyance of Children. The committee approved of a letter written to the Education Board pointing out that owing to the third party risk policy coming into force in connection with motor vehicles the £lB per annum Mr Payne, the contractor for the Awaiti conveyance car, v/ould have to pay would force him to withdraw. The committee asked the board to go into the matter, as it would be serious for the Paeroa school should this happen. Repairs at Residence. Notification was received from + he secretary of the Education Board stating that the committee’:’ application for repairs to the path at the headmaster’s residence had been referred to the architect, wicn authority to act. Anzac Day Address. The secretary was inst'ed to write to Lieutenant V. J. Innes, ■ .* the Defence Force, thanking him f-v the address he delivered to the schoolchildren on the day before Anzac Day. Advertising in Local Papers. A letter was received from the manager of. the Te Aroha Printing and Publishing Co., mentioning that as he had noticed an advertisement in the “Hauraki Plains Gazette” announcing the annual meeting of householders he would like to know whether the advertisement was paid for out of the committee’s funds or did the members make themselves liable. He stated he had been urging that meetings of householders should be advertised in the local paper and had been told by the committee in Te Aroha that if money was spbnt in that way the auditor would question it. The writer further stated that he had been in other places, where the committee had advertised the annual meeting, and he thought there was nothing to prevent this being done. He was of the opinion that if the committee could not use its funds for such a purpose there was something radically wrong. The chairman announced that the Education Board had been written to on the matter, and the manage, of the Te Aroha Printing and PublishingCo. would be informed ■ f th?: 'in«wer when it was received.
A resolution was also passed at the meeting to make a recommendation to the Schools Committee Association’s meeting on May 15, suggesting that support be given the committee’s request to the Education Board for payment of this advertising, as it was to secure the interest of householders. General. It was decided to instal an extra heating point in the Derital Clinic. Messrs J. W. Brocket and C. T. Mettam were appointed the visiting committee for the month. It was decided to present the swimming cups and certificates won by the schoolchildren on Friday, the 10th. The removal of stumps in the playground was left with the visiting committee, with power to act.
