OBITUARY.
WILLIAM COLLETT. There passed away at the Thames Hospital on Wednesday last a very old resident of the goldfields in the person of Mr William Collett. The deceased was born at Epping Forest, Wiltshire, England, in 1859, and came out to the Dominion at the age of 15 years. He was married at Hamilton in 1881, and shortly afterwards came to this district. During the early days of the goldfields he was butchering in Waitekauri, and later went mining at Karangahake. He eventually came to Paeroa, where he followed the pursuits of farming for some years. In his earlier days he was recognised as one of the best shots with the fowling-piece in the district, and was also a keen follower of racing and of sport generally. His wife predeceased him some 23 years ago. The late Mr Collett leaves a grown-up family of eight daughters and four sons, and also 44 grandchildren, to mourn his loss.
