MILITARY NOTES.

THE HAURAKI REGIMENT. Ist Battalion Appointment. Dr. H. C. Todd, M. 8., of Cambridge, has been appointed Lieutenant, N.Z.M.C., to date as from January 16, 1929, and attached to the Ist battalion, Hauraki Regiment. Anzac Day. Various units of the Ist battalion, Hauraki Regiment, and Ist and 2nd Cadet battalions in No. 2 regimental district, took part in Anzac Day parades at Paeroa, Thames, Waihi, Te Aroha, Morrinsville, Cambridge, Rotorua, Matamata, Tauragna, Whakatane, and Opotiki. Consolidated Training. Consolidated training for cadets and first-year territorials took place at Hikutaia last week, 33 cadets and 12 territorials undergoing infantry drill and training, while two days were devoted to shooting. Consolidated training this week will take place at Matamata, and 36 cadets and 12 territorials are expected to'attend. Next week Waitoa will be the centre, with 40 cadets and 12 territorials, under Staff Sergt.-Major Walker, N.Z.P.S., ordered to be present. The same training will commence at Te Puke on May 13 under Lieut. Browning. Annual Posting. On May 20 all the staff of the No. 2 Regimental District will assemble at Paeroa for the annual posting. Qualified cadets will be posted to the territorials, and territorials who have served their time will be posted to the reserve. Courses. A correspondence course of training for officers and n.c.o.’s of the Hauraki Regiment will be commenced early in June, with a view to assisting in the promotion examinations taking place in September. The whole of the N.Z. Staff Corps and Permanent Staff will undergo a refresher course at Trentham in December. GENERAL. Artillery Training. Artillery training was completed for the year when the 4th Howitzer Brigade (Auckland Secondary Schools, late College Rifles), marched out of Rotorua Camp on Anzac Day. Rifle Club. A preliminary meeting has been held at Morrinsville for the purpose of forming a rifle club. Indications show that it will obtain strong support.
