ANZAC DAY.

OBSERVANCE IN PAEROA. TO-MORROW’S PROGRAMME. The eve of our National Day of Re- ( membrance is once more with us, and to-morrow the wheels of industry, and, it is hoped, the pursuit of ordinary pleasure, will pause, in order that* fitting tribute may be paid to the memory of our men who were called upon to make the supreme sacrifice. It is to the credit of the people of this district that the passage of the years has not shown any tendency to treat less solemnly the observance of this day. Indeed, it is safe to assert that the measure and spirit of last year’s asembly was higher than ever before. This year the civic, religious, and military authorities in Paeroa are again co-operating in an earnest endeavour to make the day all that it can be, and to impress upon the young people the greatness of their inheritance. * By separate advertisement a special appeal is made to ex-service men to take part in the ceremony, and there can be no question as to the great value of their co-operation, particularly in its effect upon the young people in our midst. The following are the arrangements for the day : — 2 p.m.—Parade at the District High School, under Major Porritt, M.C., of ex-Service men, Girl Guides, Territorials, Senior Cadets, and members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade. The 6th Hauraki Regimental Band and the Senior Cadet Band will be in attendance. 2.15 p.m—His Worship the Mayor and party will place a wreath at the Roll of Honour in the school. After this the parade is to form a procession in which citizens may join four deep and proceed by way of Victoria Street, along Normanby Road to Mackay Street, entering the Domain via Mackay Street entrance, and proceed to the rotunda, where the united commemoration service will commence at 2.45 p.m. The religious exercises will be led by Ensign Sommerville and the Revs. Weadon, Lowden, and Bateup. If the weather is unfavourable, the service will be held in the Gaiety Theatre. Commencing at 3.15, a suitable programme will be rendered by the 6th Hauraki Regimental Band. All that is needed is the co-opera-tion of the people to make the day the sacred occasion which it was designed to be.
