STATISTICS FOR THE YEAR.
STATEMENT BEFORE BOARD.
The following information was contained in a statement prepared by the secretary, Mr G. Tonge, and presented at the last meeting of the Thames Hospital Board : — Number of inpatients treated for the year ended March 1, 1929, 1054 ; maternity cases, 115 ; deaths inTiospital, 52, of which 10 occurred within 24 hours of admission ; operations, 437; deaths under anaesthetic, 0 ; outpatients treated, 733 ; beds occupied daily, 69 ; length of stay of patients, 24 days.
The total amount of hospital fees charged was £11,694 12s Bd, and the amount collected £3529 10s lOd ; maternity fees charged £786 Ils, collected £489 16s ; ambulances charged £7O 6s 3d, collected £22 14s ; outpatients’ fees charged £92 14s, collected, £92 14s.
The cost of maintenance was as follows : Provisions, £2072 10s lOd ; surgery and dispensary, £728 Is 6d ; domestic and establishment, £2899 12s Id ; salaries and wages, £4726 16 7d ; total, £10,427 Is, as against £10,929 Is lOd for the previous year..
The cost of maintenance of the District Homes was set out as follows : Provisions, £552 15s 2d ; surgery and dispensary, £2O 19s$ domestic and establishment, £3OB Is 2d; salaries and wages, £441 Ils Id ; total, £1323 6s sd, as against £1353 17s 3d .for the previous year.
The total fees paid for inmates in the homes was £567 5s 4d. The statement concerning indoor and outdoor relief showed the following amounts : Paeroa Borough Council, £267 5s 9d; Ohinemuri County Council, £194 6s ; Thames County Council, £132 Is 6d ; Thames Borough Council, £269 15s 4d ; Hauraki Plains County Council, £298 12s; Hauraki Ladies’ Benevolent Society, £l2O ; total, £1282 0s 7d, as compared wifh £1591 9s last year. The assessment for the yeai’ 1927 was 0.357 of a penny in the £, and for 1928 it was 0.340 d, while for 1929 it will be 0.273 d in the £.
Following is a statement of receipts and expenditure for the year ending 1929-30 : —
Expenditure : Thames Hospital and Maternity Annexe, £11,000; District Homes, £1750 ; charitable aid for destitute children, £175 ; charitable aid for indoor and outdoor relief, £1250 ; patients of other boards, £l5O ; native nurse, £lOO ; district nurse, £lOO ; administration, £B5O ; interest on loans, nurses’ home £2OO 6s Bd, laundry and isolation, £302 10s ; painting hospital buildings, £550 ; National Provident Fund, £450 ; subsidy to be refunded to Public Account, £B3 19s 9d ; repayment of capital money advanced, £2794 13s Id ; miscellaneous, £lOO ; total, £19,856 9s 6d.
Capital : Repayment of principal, nurses’ home £577, laundry and isolation £7OO ; building of Paeroa Hospital, £7350 ; total, £8627.
Credit Capital: Refunded maintenance account, £2794 13s Id ; Bank of N.Z. balance, £673 18s 7d ; fixed deposit, £2500 ; levy and subsidy outstanding, £l3Bl 8s 4d. Receipts: Balance Bank of N.Z., £3895 9s 9d; balance levy arid subsidy, £791 19s 9d ; voluntary contributions, £268 Is 6d ; subsidy on same, £268 Is 6d; hospital recoveries, £3500; Homes recoveries, £1000,; rent, £26 ; miscellaneous, £lOO ; total, £9849 12s 6d, leaving a balance of £11,283 17s.
